In town with Tom My Nephew on saturday.
This is for Dh who has asked what i did to get this Gothic look.
One of the main secrets if it is a secret is the use of some free filters from Opiticverve labs
I took this shot in Colour so used the filters.

In PS duplicated the layer I do this every time so I'm never working on the origional.
Used the Filter "Highpass" and then set the layer options to soft light- What this does is sharpen the image.
Then Flatten the layers and then duplicate the resulting layer.
Open up the opticvervelabs filter pull down- and used the filter Anvil on some images it works well on others not so well, I tend to fiddle with the sliders in the pull downs untill I am happy with the result.
Sometimes I will then use another Opticverve filter- Classic whci gives you a classic Black and white image.
Once Iv'e done this I will often open up the newadjustment layer and select levels and curves and make some subtle tweaks untill I'm happy with how it looks.
Then select saveAs and save the file as Jpeg and one as a Photoshop defult file PSD so that if I want to edit the layers I can do so, once the file is saved as a Jpeg you lose all your layers, then upload to Flickr or here.

For the first time since I got back from Turkey I had a chance to take the camera out for a spin.
It's quite nice seeing all the trees getting into their autumnal clothing.
And the sun shone quite a bit today which makes going out for a walk a joy.

This pool is fed by underground hot springs, it was bath warm, and filled with old pillars and rocks. Bit hard to swim in because youd bang your knees and toes, but fantastic none the less.

This was near to Pamukkale and the hot springs which pour from the ground coating the surounding hill sides with white minerals, this Necropolis was massive, but we didn't have very long to explore, we had to watch out for snakes and scorpions who live here too.

After the Ancient city of Ephasus we visited a small factory which made ceramics some of the stuff they made here was beautiful, the tile in the picture was made here.

Which is what happened, I got lost the place is massive, and I wasn't sure if my party had gone past me so I had to rush to the meeting point and spend a good while wondering if I'd been left behind about 4 hours journey back to my hotel in Marmaris, not the best moment of the holiday.

On Turtle beach I noticed these holes and little foot prints left in the sand, these are the tracks of the little turtles as they make their perolious journey towards the sea by moonlight.

I thought I'd escaped the attention of the local Mossies but now I have some huge bite marks, I just hope the malaria isn't still about.

This is one of our guids for the day he took our photographs as a memento of our day, when we arrived back to the coach he had already had them printed up into a post card with our mug shots in the middle, they cost us 10 Terkish leira, I liked mind but stupidly left it on the coach.. doh!

This was from one of the coach/boat trips I took This was at one of our loo stops.
The trip involved a coach trip and then a boat trip to Turtle beach, an area where Turtles come from California and lay their eggs on the beach. It was a fantastic trip with the baot trip being very beautiful, there was also a quick stop off to Tombs which are carved into the mountainside, a civilization which was decimated by Malaria and all that remains are the tombs.

This was on my first day, there had been quite a storm the day or so before I arrived, with loads of flooding and boats destroyed, loads of stuff strewen all over the beach.
As I walked by I remember the guy saying " All right mate, you want hashish?"
"Erm no thanks" I smiled.
There is not much beach before the sea, most of which seemed to be covered with litter plastic bottles and bits of palm trees.
I walked for miles and miles and found myself in the next resort and had lunch there.
On the way you pass many resturants small shops and bars, almost every one has at least one keen young man, saying " All Right mate, come eat, drink buy my stuff.. you from England?"

Quite overwhelming at times.

Sauna

I guess no trip to Turkey would be compleat with out a visit to a Turkish bath.
I booked a few trips through an Agent which was directly oposite the Hotel his name is Mr Fish.
I had read online before I visited about Mr Fish and how his trips and Excursions were much much cheaper than those proposed by the Holiday Company I had flown with, so with this information I booked three trips in all with him, a Trip to a Turkish bath, A Trip to Turtle island and a two day Trip to the Ancient city of Ephasus. All were fantastic with the Ephasus trip being especialy good, more on that latter.
Back to the Turkish bath, on arrival it was something of a dissapointment at first, it was like going into someones basement with a little bar a bit shabby looking, not how I had envisioned it at all.
Anyway we had our Sauna and cold shower 3 times, then we were taken into another room which was more like how I imagined it would be, covered in marble and a marbale low seat, and here had the Foam massarge, which was very relaxing.
The foam made from a sack which is blown into and then compressed and slightly chilly dropped onto you.
After the Foam massage onto the Oil massage, which was great, very very relaxing and not quite as painful as I was expecting.

This little Kebab shop was just over the road from my Hotel, it was strange as every other building around it is new, this one seemed to be made out of tree trunks and other found building materials, I never ended up eatting in here so don't know what the food was like.
The food in Turkey was fantastic, it's a shame so many of the resturants catered for the English taste, so many having "Real Sunday Dinner adverts and Full english breakfast only £1.50"
Still I did find some ace places to eat, one just up the road from the Hotel called the "Emporiam", looking very Posh, nice decoration, a bit intimidating as you think this is going to be expensive, you soon realize the prices there were cheaper than most of the Resturants in the more livley Sea front and bar area.

The new pasty shop.. did I say" I really dislike pastys?"
Well I do.
And another thing why a fisherman? Now my understanding of the Cornish pasty is that while the men were Tin mining loads of nasty chemicals would contaminate their fingers so some bright spark came up with the idea of putting a thick crinckly crust around the food so the tin miners could hold the thick crust and munch the other bit that was inside the pastry, and then throw away the crust because it would have their filthy finger marks all over it.. ok so why isn't the guy a Cornish tin miner?

I agree and there where two young girls wandering around in pasty costumes handing out flyers for this new pasty shop, I didn't photograph them because they looked embarassed enough walking around looking like burnt toast, with crincly edges... I don't like pastys very much anyway.

Just had a nice suprise, went to feed my tropical fish and noticed there was a swarm of little white and black striped things around my two Key hole cichlids.
On closer inspection, they are tiny little keyhole babies.
It's been interesting watching, especialy the male. While I sat and watched one of the little fry started to swim away from the main school, the male swam after it and then to my suprise ate it.
Bad dad I thought, he then swam back to the main school and spat out the little explorer.
Who swam about not looking any worse for the experiance.
There are over 100 I wonder if my local fish shop will take some when they grow up.
I've tried to get some photographs but with out much success.
